Mandala Mixed media Painting
A mandala (circle) is a geometric configuration of symbols. In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of practitioners and adepts, as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space and as an aid to meditation. This is my attempt to upgrade the style from traditional mandala dot painting. The materials used are acrylic paint on textured modeling paste along with imitation gold leaf background. The black and gold combination symbolizes the balance of opposing forces. Black represents the enigmatic void, the unknown, and a sense of introspection. In contrast, gold stands for the sun’s radiant warmth, prosperity, and wealth. The leaves are applied with the palette knife of different sizes in a circular shape and left to dry till completely cured. The base is then covered with a couple of layers of mars black acrylic paint filling in all the groves and textures.
The dot painting on the leaves is with metallic gold paint maintaining the symmetry and size all throughout the artwork. The shimmering speckles of gold amidst vast expanses of black, golden dots cutting across the black background create a symphony of sensory delight. As the saying goes when in doubt go with black and gold, this artwork is a fit in any space.
